What We Do
A lifetime of fitness and community.
A life-changing fitness community.
We lead adults with intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) to choose to a lifetime of community-driven health and wellness. We provide holistic wellness classes in-person, on-demand and through our Bloom Live! online classes.
We serve this vision every day with every athlete.
Our vision statement
Everyone with an intellectual or developmental disability has an athlete within. Bloom is here to help each person find it.
A life-changing fitness community built on love.
Bloom began in 2016 in partnership with a day habilitation provider in Rosenburg, Texas with seven stationary bikes and a dream: get adults with IDD moving. Fast-forward, Bloom has invested nearly $400,000 in supporting its mission of leading every person with IDD to a lifetime of wellness.
We currently serve approximately 1000 athletes with intellectual disabilities: most of which have dual diagnoses and/or are economically disadvantaged. Yoga, Pilates, cycle, strength, dance, and chair fitness classes are provided in person at partner IDD service provider facilities, through Bloom Live!, and on-demand on our Bloom Fitness web application.
Through technology and partnerships, Bloom has continued to decrease program costs. Currently, Bloom can provide quality, relevant, and useful programming for approximately $5 per interaction in year one and $1 per interaction for all subsequent years. Not only is this rate below fitness industry norms, but it also provides a uniquely engaging wellness program designed specifically for the IDD population.
95% of Bloom athletes never leave our program.
96% of our original IDD service providers partners still participate in Bloom today.
90% of Bloom volunteers remain connected with Bloom indefinitely.
We lead adults with intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) to choose to a lifetime of community-based health and wellness. We provide holistic wellness classes in-person, on-demand and through our Bloom Live! online classes.
Classes include chair fitness, cycle, dance, Pilates, strength, and yoga. Classes are 30 minutes long and are highly adaptable to meet the unique needs of each athlete.
Building connections between short-term efforts and long-term wellness starts with a sense of community. Bloom focuses on celebrating our connection with Bloom athletes, leveraging what makes Bloom athletes distinct, and adjusting fitness practices to serve Bloom athletes in order to build this community.
Additionally, athletes are honored in regularly-scheduled celebrations for the what they have earned.
Through community building and fitness classes, Bloom helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities reach for a lifetime of wellness.
Survey results show that athletes have improved mental, physical, and emotional health because of their participation in Bloom.
